Lyme disease is topic today

LEWISTON — “Battling Bugs: Lyme Disease and You” is the topic of the second in a series of six Mini-Medical School presentations being offered this fall by Central Maine Medical Center.

The program will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Maine College of Health Professions, 70 Middle St.

S. Tyler O’Sullivan, D.O., a resident physician at the Central Maine Family Medicine Residency in Lewiston, will discuss Lyme disease, its signs and symptoms, and what can be done to help prevent it.

Interpreter services are available upon advance request.

CNA course at Auburn Adult Ed.

AUBURN — Auburn Adult and Community Education will hold a Certified Nursing Assistant course.

Annual chicken pie supper

MONMOUTH — The East Monmouth Ladies Auxiliary will hold the annual chicken pie supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at East Monmouth Church Vestry, Route 135.

The meal will feature homemade chicken pot pies, cole slaw, squash, baked beans, rolls, apple crisp with real whipped cream, punch and coffee.

The cost for adults is $8, children $4.

Bean supper Oct. 25 in Gray

GRAY — A bean supper will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at First Congregational Church, Route 115.

Meal includes casseroles, salads, homemade breads and desserts.

Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

The church is handicapped accessible.

LISBON — A bean and ham supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the United Methodist Church, 14 School St.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6-12 and free for 5 and under.

The meal is hosted by the Methodist Women.

WLU plans harvest craft fair Oct. 25

AUBURN — The Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County will hold a harvest craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Foss Mansion, 19 Elm St.

Items for sale include jewelry, handmade craft items, baked goods, used books, dolls and doll accessories.

An all-day cafe includes coffee, tea, cider and baked goods.

Fright Fest is Oct. 31 in Auburn

AUBURN — The City of Auburn Recreation Division will host the annual Fright Fest event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Hasty Community Center. Fright Fest is an event for children in grades pre-K through six.

Activities will include: games, face painting, a candy corn guessing jar, parade of costumes, prizes and refreshments. Auburn invites its citizens to take part in this free, family-friendly, recreational event.

VFW recruiting event in Lewiston

LEWISTON — The Auburn Veterans of Foreign Wars at 588 Minot Ave. will have a recruiting table set up at the Tractor Supply store at 1619 Lisbon St. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 1.

VFW Post 1603 Commander Hugh Brown will have this set up and ready for veterans who served overseas and received a campaign ribbon or medal to become a member.

Even if you aren’t eligible to join the VFW, stop by if you have any questions about any issues. Members will assist you or give you a contact person who will.

YWCA babysitter training course

LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will hold an American Red Cross babysitting course from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 2 and 9. This course is open to boys and girls 11-15 years old.

Each babysitter will be taught home and outdoor safety procedures, basic child care, caregiving, safe play, first aid, critical emergency and professional leadership skills. Each participant will receive an ARC child and infant CPR certification upon completion of the course.

This babysitter training course is designed for pre-teens and teenagers that are responsible for caring for younger siblings or those wanting to gain the proper skills to have babysitting clientele of their own.

The cost is $75 for members and $90 for nonmembers. Class participants must attend both days of training to receive their certification. Space is limited. For more information or to register, call the YWCA of Central Maine at 795-4050.
