BETHEL — Telstar scored all three of their goals in the first half to shut out Waynflete with a 3-0 win in a Western Class C prelim matchup.

The win sets up a date with the No. 2 seeded Yarmouth Clippers on Tuesday.

Becca Howard scored twice and Octavia Morin had the other goal as Telstar improves to 7-8 on the season. Savannah Laird and Sadie Ellsworth each had an assist while Meg Glover made seven saves in the victory.

The loss ended Waynflete’s season at 4-10-1.

Boys’ soccer

Waynflete 2, Gray-NG 0

GRAY — Waynflete scored twice in the second half to dispatch Gray-New Gloucester 2-0 in boys’ soccer.

Clancy Mitchell scored the eventual game-winning goal about seven minutes into the half. He also assisted on Harry Baker-Connick’s goal with 13 minutes to go.

Milo Belleau stopped all four shots he faced for the shutout while John Henry-Villanueva stopped five shots.

The loss drops the Patriots to 6-5-2 while Waynflete improves to 10-1-2.

Girls’ soccer

Oxford Hills 10, Skowhegan 0

PARIS — Mikayla Morin scored four goals as Oxford Hills cruised to a 10-0 shutout victory over Skowhegan in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Abbey Nolan scored three first-half goals as did Morin to put the Vikings on top 6-0 at the midpoint. Morin contributed three assists, while Nolan chipped in on a Sadie Record goal in the second stanza.

Goalie Tara Bernard made 22 saves for the Indians, while goalie Sam Bickford repelled two to earn the win in net for Oxford Hills.

St. Dom’s 4, Carrabec 0

NORTH ANSON — Faith Grady notched a hat trick as St. Dom’s sailed to a 4-0 victory over Carrabec in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Kym Johnson assisted Grady on two of her goals as the Saints scored their full compliment in the first half.

Goalie Stephanie Cossaboom made eight saves for the Cobras, while goalie Nicole Robitaille had the shutout with three saves for St. Dom’s.

Freeport 3, Poland 0

FREEPORT — Senior defenseman Emily Johnson netted the first and eventual game-winning goal as Freeport breezed to a 3-0 victory over Poland in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

The Falcons (4-7-2) capitalized on opportunities and scored three times in the second half.

Goalie Erin Brewer made eight saves for the Knights (1-10-2), while goalie Izzy Qualls stopped three to earn the win in net for Freeport.

Middlebury 2, Bates 0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Claire Nishioka broke through late in the first half to post the eventual game-winning goal as Middlebury edged Bates 2-0 in NESCAC women’s soccer action Saturday.

First-year players Libby Malasky and Ana Urbina were credited with the Bobcat’s (7-6) only shots on the afternoon.

Sophomore goalie Sarah McCarthy made two saves for Bates, while goalie Emily Eslinger also made a pair to earn the win in net for the Panthers (8-5).

Husson 2, UMF 1 (OT)

FARMINGTON — Katie Cyr chipped a shot just under the crossbar in the overtime frame to lift Husson to a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in NAC women’s soccer action Saturday.

Leah Hibbard gave the Eagles the lead nine minutes into the second half with her 12th goal of the season.

Alexandra Crocker scored the equalizer in the 65th minute when her header found the back of the net for the Beavers.

Goalie Sam Hatch made nine saves for the Beavers, while goalie Jess Poulin fended off seven shots to earn the win in net for Husson.

Field hockey

Middlebury 6, Bates 0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Jillian Green and Catherine Fowler netted two goals apiece as Middlebury College slotted a 6-0 triumph over Bates College in NESCAC field hockey action Saturday.

The Panthers (11-1) scored four times in the first half, led off by Green in the 13th and 26th minutes.

First-year Delaney Nalen made two shots on goal for the Bobcats (3-9), but failed to deliver.

Juniors Cristina Vega and Katie Knox split goalkeeping duties for the Bobcats. Vega made seven saves, while Knox posted three saves.

Football

Colby 47, Hamilton 14

WATERVILLE — Sophomore Gabe Harrington passed for four touchdowns and threw for 225 yards as Colby went coast to coast for a 47-14 victory over Hamilton College in football action Saturday.

With Harrington out of the game in the third quarter, the Continentals (0-5) set up their first score following an interception by John Phelan at the Colby 32-yard line.

The Mules (1-4) led 14-0 after less than six minutes and were up 20-0 at the first quarter break.

Men’s cross country

Bates’ Stansel wins Maine State Championship meet

FARMINGTON — Senior captain John Stansel was the individual champion, and Bates placed five runners among the top nine overall to win the Sate of Maine Intercollegiate Chamionship on Saturday.

First-year Zach Magin placed third overall in 26:35, while juior Allen Sumrall took sixth place in 26:49 and sophomore Joe Doyle came in seventh at 26:52. Senior Michael Creedon took ninth place in 27:01 as Bates’ final scorer, while junior Gregg Heller and sophomore Michael Horowicz were Bates’ displacers in 12th and 14th places, respectively, at 27:03 and 27:10.

Bates places third at Maine State Championships

FARMINGTON — Senior captain Elena Jay finsihed the tough 5-kilometer course at Mt. Blue High School in third place out of 144 runners in 19:35, 12 seconds behind race winner Alanna McDonough.

It was Jay’s second consecutive year finishing in the top seven.

Sophomore Jessica Wilson placed 10th in 19:59, while Bates rounded out its team scoring by taking places 15 through 17 with sophomore Molly Chisholm at 20:15, junior Isabelle Unger at 20:24 and first-year Katerine Cook at 20:45 Senir Erica Gagnon came in 19th at 20:37, and junior Addie Cullenberg of Farmington was 21st at 20:42 for Bates.
