GRAY — Much of Maine can expect to be soaked with rain over the course of this week, according to the National Weather Service.

While the weather service did not post storm warnings or watches Monday afternoon in advance of the predicted rain, storms are expected to move in Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

Rain is expected to be heavy at times. The system is expected to move into Down East and central portions of Maine on Tuesday night into Wednesday, then lift across northern Maine later Wednesday into Thursday.

The fall nor’easter could bring as much as two to three inches of rain.

The upcoming storm is already wreaking havoc with postseason high school tournaments.

The Maine Principals Association announced Monday the impending storms will force numerous changes in this week’s field hockey playoff schedule.

Semifinal games originally scheduled for Saturday have been moved to Oct. 28, pushing regional championship games to Oct. 30.

The regional finals for western and eastern Maine had been scheduled for Oct. 28.

Teams will have until Saturday to make sure quarterfinal matches have been played. No semifinal matches will be contested until all quarterfinal games are final.

In addition, teams scheduled to play quarterfinal games Wednesday will not be allowed to move them up to Tuesday because of an official shortage.
