Now the 2006 Lisbon graduate can say with confidence the last time the Greyhounds knocked off the Saints: Monday. 

Junior forward Deliah Schreiber ended Lisbon’s years of futility against St. Dom’s with her game-winning goal 3:21 into overtime as the Greyhounds topped the Saints, 2-1. It was Schrieber’s second goal of the match. 

“We just really picked it up,” Schreiber said. “We’ve been to overtime. This is our fourth time this season, and we always find it. We always get that energy. Somehow we did it.” 

After 80 minutes of physical play solved nothing, Schreiber finished the match with the only shot on goal of the extra frame. Schreiber settled the ball in the box and fired a shot into the bottom right corner of the net past Lisbon goalkeeper Nicole Robitaille to cap the regular season for both teams. A finish filled with excitement for the Greyhounds (8-3-3), and a finish filled with tears for the Saints (11-3) on their senior day. 

“The girls really deserved this win,” Purser said. “They came out and played hard. St. Dom’s is an amazing team. They’re well-coached and a well-rounded team. We just came out with some heart today.” 

Scoring chances were few and far between, but Lisbon made the most of its opportunities in the first half. Schreiber was taken down at the top of box and was awarded a penalty kick in the fourth minute. She converted on the chance, burying the ball in the same spot she’d find 80 minutes later. It was the Greyhounds’ only shot on goal of the first half. 

It took a yellow card issued to St. Dom’s coach Alicia Pelletier to get the Saints going offensively. St. Dom’s scored 12 minutes after Pelletier was shown the yellow card by the referee off its first corner kick off the game. Amidst a slew of players inside the box, Kym Johnson found the back of the net for the Saints to tie the game in the 58th minute. 

“I can’t ask for more out of my players,” Pelletier said. “They definitely fought and battled the whole game and continued to play both clean and aggressive as they can. They didn’t give up. Even when things weren’t going their way, they stepped up and kept battling back and pushed forward.”

The Saints had two more corner kicks before the end of regulation but couldn’t produce the game-winning goal. Both teams had potential game-winning shots sail just wide of the net. The Greyhounds finished with a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. 

Lisbon avenged a 1-0 loss to St. Dom’s earlier this season, when Schreiber was unable to break free of the defense. Monday’s match was much different as she had several quality touches. 

“We used our passing to create spacing,” Schreiber said. “Last game we held the ball too much. We held the ball too long and this game we really got rid of it fast.” 

Lisbon’s win has it sixth in the Class C West Heal Point standings, while the loss dropped St. Dom’s to fourth following Mountain Valley’s 1-0 victory against previously-undefeated Madison.
