A local group called The Walkabouts use the new Riverside Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path in Lewiston on Tuesday. The 1.5 mile pathway officially opened after officials held a ceremony and cut a ribbon at Sunnyside Park at the corner of Whipple and Winter streets. The Walkabouts have walked every Tuesday for 234 consecutive weeks, Celia Treworgy of Lewiston said. There are 17 people in the group and they pick different trails each week. Treworgy said The Walkabouts used the former dirt trail before the new paved path was built. “This makes it easier on the feet for us elderly folks,” Treworgy said. The Riverside Greenway is part of the East Coast Greenway, a shared-use trail system that stretches from Maine to Florida.
