NORWAY — Thousands of children and their parents are expected on Main Street for the 10th annual Halloween Festival on Friday.

“This is the 10th anniversary of Norway Downtown’s Halloween Festival, and it is on Halloween,” Recreation Director Deb Partridge said. “Very exciting.”

Last year, it attracted more than 2,500 children and their parents from across Oxford County and beyond. Scores of downtown businesses opened their doors for the one-mile Trick or Treat — Start Where You Park” event. Many of the employees are also in costumes.

This year, 64 businesses and organizations are opening their doors from 2 to 5 p.m. That’s 10 more than last year.

Partridge’s list of activities this year includes games and activities at the Second Congregational Church; Baxter, crafts, and healthy snacks at the Norway Memorial Library; a police car and officer at Main and Cottage streets; raffles and games with Walgreens at the Town Square; and the Norway Fire Department with Smokey Bear and Sparky, a popcorn machine and the smoke trailer.

At C&C Farm and Old Squire Farmers Market, a dance party will run every 20 minutes beginning at 2 p.m. and costume judging contest every 30 minutes. There will also be treats, a balloon artist and a jack-o’-lantern bouncy house.
