1922 – 2014

LEWISTON — Barbara Lucille Connor, 92, formerly of 27 Julie St., Poland, died on Monday, Oct. 27, at the Montello Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since August.

She was born in Lewiston on April 27, 1922, she was the daughter of Michael T. and Marjorie Ham Harkins Sr. She was educated at local schools, and was a graduate of Lewiston High School. On June 30, 1949, she married Eugene D. Connor.

Over the course of her working life, she was the manager of the Photo Studio at B. Peck Company in Lewiston, co-manager of the White Sewing Machine Department at England Brothers Department Store in Pittsfield, Mass., where she also served as the cosmetic buyer, stationery buyer and ran the Christmas department for many years. She was also very active in community theater, serving as the president and artistic director of the Palatine Town Players in Palatine, Ill., and directed many productions for children in Pittsfield, Mass.

She also enjoyed reading, gardening, antiquing, and especially sailing, racing one-design sailboats with her husband, Gene, at regattas in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

Besides her loving husband of Poland, she is survived by a brother, Michael and wife, Irene; two sisters, Cecila Harkins and companion, Bob Roy, and Rose Stephenson and husband, Dewey; several nieces and nephews, Shannon, Kelly, Jonathan, Fred, Karen, Patricia, David, Sue, Deborah, Amy and Mathew. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Norman Hankins.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Daniel; sisters, Arline Philbrick and Louise Hankins; and brother-in-law, Harry Philbrick.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Montello Manor and Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, especially Terry, Cath, Kathleen, and Doreen, for all the loving care they gave Barbara during her final illness.

CONNOR — Barbara, 92, of Poland, died in Lewiston on Monday, Oct. 27. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, from 11 a.m to 1 p.m., followed by a Liturgy of the Word Service at 1 p.m. Interment is at Gracelon Cemetery.
