Recently the Wedgewood Estates Homeowners Association (WEHA) asked the Poland Board of Selectmen to place an article on the warrant for the annual town meeting in April. The article would propose that Wedgewood Circle, a road within the Wedgewood Estates subdivision, become a public road.

The board is currently deciding whether to place the article on the warrant because the road does not meet town road standards, for two reasons: it does not have sidewalks, and the turnaround is a smaller size than current ordinances.

WEHA does not dispute those points; however, waivers for those items were granted, approved and recorded in the registry of deeds by the Poland Planning Board, with the approval of the previous fire chief and Public Works manager.

WEHA has gathered documentation from previous Planning Board meeting minutes and video/audio recordings, to confirm the waivers were granted with the intent that Wedgewood Circle would eventually become a public road, which is the current proposal.

At the Oct. 7 selectmen’s meeting, the current Public Works manager stated the road could be plowed “no problem” and “with very little, if any, cost to the town.”

Wedgewood Circle will not be a financial burden or a risk to public safety. We are asking the selectmen to make a common sense decision and do the right thing: uphold the Planning Board’s decision to grant the waivers for these two items by placing the article on the warrant so it may go to a public vote.
