BETHEL — The Telstar Alumni Association will host its inaugural craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Telstar Regional High School cafeteria.
Member Sally Smith, who graduated from Telstar 42 years ago, said in the past few years the association has held Chinese auctions to raise money.
“Unfortunately, the Chinese auctions weren’t as successful as we had hoped, so this year, we decided to add in a craft fair element,” she said. “We’ll also be holding a smaller Chinese auction along with it.”
All money raised will help high school students.
“We take the money from our fundraisers to use toward educational assistance awards that we give out every year at graduation,” Smith said. “We also put money aside for any other projects that kids at the school come up with over the course of the school year.”
Some of the money also goes toward purchasing an alumni key chain for each graduate, Smith said.
“We’ve been giving awards to graduates for years and years,” Smith said. “We don’t get a lot of participation from graduates, but there is a small group of us, plugging away at it every year.”
Smith said a group of fifth-graders from Crescent Park Elementary School in Bethel are providing all of the food and using the proceeds to pay for their annual Boston field trip.
“We have a lot of crafters who have agreed to set up,” Smith said. “We still have a little bit of space left too.”
Telstar graduate Tracy Walker is helping set up the fair.
“Tracy has set up tables at craft fairs in Woodstock, so she knows what she’s doing,” Smith said.
