FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners voted Tuesday to hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. on Dec. 2 at the county courthouse on a draft proposed $1.2 million unorganized territory budget for 2015-16.

The budget figure may undergo some tweaking when all information is finalized.

The spending package represents an increase of $77,105 over the current budget.

One area the budget increased is snow removal. The contract for Washington and Perkins townships increased by $15,500. Commissioners approved it earlier this year.

County Clerk Julie Magoon said the Madrid Township snow removal contract is due to expire next year. She added 25 percent to the current amount given the fact that the Washington-Perkins contract increased, she said.

The proposed total for snow removal is $433,345, an increase of nearly $30,000.

The amount for waste disposal decreased by $8,476 to $134,465. County officials plan to explore a possible option that may reduce the cost further.

Magoon said she hasn’t heard Rangeley’s proposal for disposal services for unorganized territory north of the town, but she included a slight increase.

Fire protection is up about $5,928. The proposal includes $2,000 for Wilton to provide fire protection services to Washington Township.

The draft includes $35,000 for Land Use Planning Commission planning, which appears to be a new category.
