FARMINGTON —A Starks man who apparently wanted to see how fast his car could go was arrested Wednesday night on charges of drunken driving, speeding and operating an uninspected vehicle, Police Department secretary Bonnie Pomeroy said.

Dalton Abbott, 20, started off from the lights in front of Franklin Memorial Hospital and quickly reached a speed of 62 mph in a 40 mph zone, apparently wanting to see what his Chevrolet Cobalt could do, she said.

Two police cruisers were parked a short distance away from the stop light when Abbott roared by about 8:45 p.m. His car’s exhaust system was quite loud, Pomeroy said.

Abbott was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, speeding and having no valid vehicle inspection sticker, she said.
