FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue Regional School District Music Department has announced the upcoming concert season in area schools. This is the first concert season for this school year. All concerts are free and open to the public.
Starting the concert season on Wednesday, Nov. 19, the Mt. Blue High School Band and Chorus will present their concert in Bjorn Auditorium on the Mt. Blue campus beginning at 7 p.m. The concert band is under the direction of Karen Beacham.
The chorus is directed by Carol Shumway. This concert will feature a first time ever, joint musical project with the band and chorus performing together in a newly published work based upon the original text of the Gettysburg Address given by President Abraham Lincoln on Nov. 19, 1863. Each ensemble will perform their own concert program well as performances by the MB Jazz Band and Chamber Singers. The concert will conclude with the performance of the Gettysburg Address.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the student musicians from Cascade Brook School will perform in the Mt. Blue Middle School gym beginning at 7 p.m. Included in this concert are the fourth- and fifth-grade orchestras, the fifth-grade band and the fifth-grade chorus. Karen Beacham, Nancy Beacham and Carol Shumway direct the fourth- and fifth-grade music ensembles.
The Mt. Blue Middle School sixth-grade orchestra, the seventh/eighth-grade orchestra and Mt. Blue High School orchestra will perform in a joint concert on Thursday, Dec. 4, in the Bjorn Auditorium on the Mt. Blue campus beginning at 7 p.m. These orchestras are under the direction of Nancy Beacham and Steven Muise.
On Tuesday, Dec. 9, the student musicians from Academy Hill School will perform in the Academy Hill School gym beginning at 7 p.m. This concert includes the fourth- and fifth-grade orchestras, the fifth-grade band and the fifth-grade chorus. Lindsay Burke, Daryl Pike and Steven Muise direct these student musicians.
The Mt. Blue Middle School grade six and seventh/eighth bands and grade six and seventh/eighth choruses will present their concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Blue Middle School gym. Directors for these ensembles are Karen Beacham, Lindsay Burke, Scott Dunbar and Darryl Pike
The final concert is Thursday, Dec. 11 at Cape Cod Hill School.
Student musicians in grades four and five will perform in the fifth-grade chorus, the fifth-grade band and the fourth- and fifth-grade orchestras under the direction of Lindsay Burke, Karen Beacham and Nancy Beacham. The concert is in the gym.
Concert snow dates (if needed) are Wednesday, Dec. 17, and Thursday, Dec. 18. Location will be determined as needed.
