ROXBURY – For the third consecutive year, Ellis Pond Variety is raffling off a cord of wood this month to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of New England.

Tickets are $1 each, seven for $5, or 15 for $10, and may be purchased at the store.

The cord of wood was donated by Adam and Bear Gammon of Andover.

Dennis Daniel of Ellis Pond Variety said the store began raffling cords of wood a few years ago to raise awareness of condition and money to help the foundation.

“My granddaughter, Alexandria, was 8 years old when she was diagnosed with epilepsy,” Daniel said. “She’s 19 now, and she’s doing the best she can with her life. Epilepsy is known as ‘the silent disease’ because people don’t like talking about it. Most of the time, people will see other people with epilepsy and think they’re either drunk or high on cocaine or something.”

Daniel said besides the raffle, he holds other events throughout the year to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of New England, including walks, dances and Scentsy candle gatherings.

“With the raffle, we tend to raise between $400 and $500,” he said. “People have been nice enough to donate cords of wood over the last few years.”
