SKOWHEGAN — Police are searching for a man who allegedly broke into a Mount Pleasant Avenue home early Wednesday morning.
According to Skowhegan Police Chief Ted Blais, a homeowner came downstairs to go to work shortly before 5 a.m. to find a man standing in his living room.
The intruder threatened to stab the resident and demanded cash, upon which the resident told the suspect to leave and yelled to the other residents of the house, Blais said.
That prompted the man to flee on foot empty-handed, the chief said.
The man was tracked by Deputy Dave Cole of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and his canine partner, Blais said, but he was not found.
The intruder, a white man in his 20s, was wearing a camouflage jacket and carrying a bright orange backpack. He is 5-foot-8 and weighs about 160 pounds.
Blais said the man is facing charges of robbery, burglary and criminal trespass.
Skowhegan police were assisted by Madison and Fairfield police in addition to the sheriff’s office.
