LIVERMORE FALLS — A structural engineer will look at the back wall of the fire station to determine if the wall, which is cracked and has a slight bow in it, and the floor in that area are broken, town officials said.
The roof is also leaking, fire Chief Tim “TD” Hardy said.
Engineer Bob Berry, owner of Main-Land Development Consultants in Livermore Falls, looked at the building and recommended an assessment by a structural engineer.
The Board of Selectmen gave consensus approval on Nov. 18 to have the engineer look at the roof and wall to give an assessment of their condition, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said Nov. 24.
The assessment should determine if there is a structural problem, what it will take to fix the issues and if the work needs to be done right away, Hardy said.
The roof will have to be replaced in the future, he said.
The station’s furnace is leaking as well.
It was installed in the 1960s or 1970s, Flagg said.
Selectmen also authorized getting estimates on a new propane-fueled boiler and oil boiler, she said.
Flagg said they are also looking for a secure and dry place to store the antique firetruck and have a couple of options they are pursuing.
