Christmas sing-a-long at library

BRYANT POND — There will be a Christmas sing-a-long at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.

Jim Burke is back by popular demand and will be on the keyboard. Members of the newly formed Oxford Hills Ukulele Group will be playing and singing. Janet Willie of Bethel will play her penny whistle.

The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

Seminar on veterans’ benefits

OXFORD — Are you a veteran who needs to find out about your benefits? Are you getting what you earned by your service? Do you need help with a VA claim?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you need to attend the Veterans Information and Benefits Seminar from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Anderson-Staples American Legion Post 112, at 169 King St.

“Too many veterans do not know what benefits they are entitled to, how to claim them or who to talk to,” said Rick Nugent, the Anderson-Staples Post service officer. “The American Legion exists to help each and every veteran, their families and the communities they live in.”

West Paris Library’s Internet policy

WEST PARIS — The new Internet policy of the Arthur L. Mann (West Paris Public) Library, recently approved by the Board of Trustees, will be presented to the public at the selectmen’s meeting on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m.

Recommendations will be taken and questions will be answered. This public presentation is in accordance with the guidelines of the Children’s Internet Protection Act.

Paris Fire Auxiliary hosts public supper

PARIS — Paris Fire Auxiliary will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Paris Fire Department.

Menu will be baked ham, potatoes, veggies, mac and cheese, salads, rolls and assorted homemade pies with ice cream.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, plus the drawing of the Cash Calendar winners.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 4-12, free for ages 3 and under.

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will hold its Pot Luck Holiday Party at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road. Everyone is welcome.

Christmas Cantata at Locke Mills church

LOCKE MILLS — The annual Christmas Cantata, “The Heart of Christmas,” will be held at the Locke Mills Union Church at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. Refreshments will follow.

Winners of Tri-Town Family 5K

MINOT — The third annual Tri-Town Family 5K took place on Nov. 9 and attracted 286 runners and walkers to the Minot course. Poland’s Lucas Yorkey finished first with a time of 21:19. Mia Turkington, also of Poland, was the top finishing female, completing the race in 23:54.

The Tri-Town Family 5K is a culmination and celebration of the Whittier Middle School Run Program. Students and staff participated in a nine-week Couch-to-5K program to grow as runners and work toward 5K readiness. Participants in the program set individual goals and logged progress. The program is intended to help students have healthy fun and build healthy habits in an effort to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
