1922 – 2014

AUBURN — Elmer C. “Bud” Goding, 92, of Auburn, beloved husband of Jean (Sudds) Goding, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Dec. 1., at the Androscoggin Hospice House.

He was born in Auburn on March 13, 1922, a son of the late James and Vesta (Dunlap) Goding. He was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1940. In 1944, Bud and Elizabeth Blackmore were married; they celebrated 33 years of marriage before her death in 1977. He later married Jean S. Groves in 1980.

Bud was employed by Morin Brick Co. and Hammond Equipment as a mechanic for many years. During World War II, he was not drafted into the service because the country needed him to farm and raise crops for the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol at this time.

He was a faithful member of Court Street Baptist Church in Auburn. Bud was a kind and gentle man who was blessed with a giving and loving spirit. The bounty of his vegetable and raspberry gardens were always shared with friends and family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean; her children, Jonathan Groves of Auburn and Susan (Woods) Abbott of Wilmington, Mass.; his son, Paul (Sharon) Goding, of Auburn; and a daughter, Betty Goding Dolloff and her companion, Mike Caron, of Turner. Survivors also include his grandchildren, David Goding, Denise (Robert) Purrington, Cheryl (Jarrod) Milton, Kayla Hinkley and her fiancé, Aaron Manifold and Cameron (Erin) Hinkley; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Madelyn Beaucage, of Portsmouth, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, J. Garfield Goding; and sisters, Vera Pickle, Mary Kyes, Evelyn Wyman and Flora Bragdon.

Jean would like to thank the visiting hospice nurses without whom she could not have kept Bud at home and the staff of the Androscoggin Hospice House, especially Esther and Bambi, who cared devotedly for Bud during his final hours.
