LEWISTON — Community members are invited to participate in a French sing-along session at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the D’Youville Pavilion Chapel, 102 Campus Ave.

Jacynthe Jacques, Aliette Couturier and friends will lead attendees in singing a selection of festive local Franco favorites such as “Le P’tit Rene au Nez Rouge” and “Il est ne le divin enfant.” Providing musical accompaniment will be pianist Jeannette Gregoire.

“We’re looking forward to sharing our music with the residents and with the community,” said Couturier. “This venue allows us to share with many people and we certainly welcome anyone who likes music — whether they are Franco or not — to come join us for this very special occasion. Song books are provided so that even those who are unfamiliar with the songs or less-than-fluent in the French language can easily follow along.”

Organized in 2010 by the Maine Folque Co-op in collaboration with USM LAC’s Franco-American Collection, the monthly series of song sessions takes place from September through June, usually in Room 170 at the college, with occasional outing to local retirement communities, nursing homes and the annual festive event at D’Youville.

Admission is free to all. More information is available by calling Jacynthe Jacques at 576-4109.
