FRYEBURG — A 47-year-old Brownfield woman was killed Tuesday morning when the truck she was riding in slid off Route 5 and struck a tree, police said.

Rhonda Robblee was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Paul Cundiff, 64, of Porter, was in critical condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Fryeburg police Chief Joshua Potvin said in a news release.

Cundiff was driving south on Route 5, also known as Main Street, in a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup when he lost control of the vehicle near the Bog Pond Road intersection at about 11:15 a.m., according to the release.

Fryeburg Rescue and Fire Departments, as well Saco Valley Fire, responded to the scene and extricated the occupants from the vehicle. The road was closed for several hours while Fryeburg police and Maine State Police crash reconstructionists investigated.

Fryeburg police said it appeared the truck may have been traveling too fast for road conditions. The truck was impounded and will undergo a forensic analysis.

“This is a tragic event for the family and friends of those involved in this crash,” Potvin said in the release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those involved, and we urge motorists to drive with care during this holiday season.”
