BATH — Bath Iron Works has been awarded a $21 million contract to continue work on a class of U.S. Navy destroyers.
U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree said in a statement Thursday night that it was a modification of a previously awarded contract for construction of DDG 51 destroyers.
Pingree said the shipyard was already the lead designer for the DDG 51s and the additional contract will allow Bath to provide engineering and support for follow-up work on the destroyers at the Ingalls Shipyard in Pascogoula, Mississippi.
