CARTHAGE — Residents will vote on whether to approve a $198,467 budget during their annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the Town Office.

The budget is $2,029 higher than the previous year’s municipal budget.

Selectman Stephen Brown said that the 40-article warrant is “fairly similar” to the 2013 town warrant, with only a few additions.

One of the major additions includes a question asking residents if they wish to borrow up to $100,000 to buy a fire truck.

“The town has a couple of good firetrucks, but they’re getting up there in age,” Brown said. “They’re always tinkering on them to keep it working, so I think they’re looking to replace one of the older trucks.”

Among the other items on the warrant is an article asking residents if they wish to raise and/or appropriate $2,000 to update the town’s Veterans Memorial, and another article asking if the town wishes to raise and/or appropriate $2,000 from the surplus account for maintenance of the Town Office building.

Brown added that tax collector and town clerk Linda Berry, Selectman Banaman R. Weston and treasurer Nancy Blodgett are all seeking re-election to their respective positions.

“To my knowledge, none of them are running opposed, although we won’t know until the night of the meeting,” Brown said. “We take names from the floor during our meeting, and as far as I know, all of the incumbents are running for their positions again.”
