Champagne is the drink that most people associate with New Year’s Eve. More champagne is drunk on New Year’s Eve than on any other single day of the year. If you are tired of the same old champagne drink at midnight and are looking for a way to dress up your party, consider serving champagne cocktails. These tasty concoctions can bring in the New Year with style and make your party the most memorable one of the year.

There are a few things that all champagne cocktails have in common. The better the champagne, the better tasting the cocktail will be. It is the champagne that contributes most of the taste and flavor to the drink. For all of your champagne cocktails, add the champagne as the last ingredient. If you add it right before serving, you will create the most dramatic effect. If you don’t have them already, now is the time to invest in champagne flutes. The shape of the glass will also contribute to the dramatic effect.

For a traditional champagne cocktail, place a sugar cube in the bottom of a champagne flute, then saturate it with a couple of dashes of bitters. Add an ounce of good brandy and fill the flute with your champagne. You can garnish this with any kind of fruit, although the most traditional method is to add an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. If you want a little more fruit, then shoot for a Bellini, a variation on the traditional champagne cocktail. These are easier to make and require few extra purchases. The Bellini was traditionally made with prosecco, a sparkling Italian wine. For this, just add 2 ounces of peach juice or peach puree to your champagne flute. You can add any fruit juice to dress up your cocktail, making raspberry, blueberry or blackberry Bellinis.

If you are looking for something less sweet, try a champagne cocktail that emphasizes herbal notes instead of sweetness. The Beautiful Boat is a combination of equal parts vodka and champagne, combined with mint leaves. Shake 1 1/5 ounces of vodka with ice and mint leaves vigorously, and then strain it into a cocktail glass. Pour the champagne over the top. Many people choose to garnish these with rose petal leaves. Elderflower cocktails are also an easy way to satisfy your thirst on New Year’s Eve. Combine 3 ounces of champagne with 2 ounces of elderflower liqueur, available at most liquor stores, over ice in a tall glass. Add a dash of club soda on top and stir well.

One of the best ways to serve these drinks is to prepare a set of them and offer one to your guests as they arrive. That way, you don’t have to be in the kitchen all night preparing cocktails, and guests can get into the seasonal spirit at the beginning of the party.
