FARMINGTON Pamela “Pam” Prodan, the incoming Franklin County treasurer, learned about the financial goings-on of the county Monday as she worked with Deputy Treasurer Vickie Braley.

She begins her duties Jan. 1, after current Treasurer Mary Frank leaves office on Dec. 31. Frank did not seek re-election. Frank won election to the position over Prodan in 2010.

Prodan of Wilton has been a lawyer since 1992. She has done a lot of governmental administrative law.

“I really believe in the value of financial reporting,” she said.

She intends to provide clear and understandable financial information to taxpayers, commissioners and county department heads who need that information to function, Prodan said.

Governmental decision-making, financial reporting and accounting practices are very different from those of an individual, business or bank, she said.

She believes that her experience in the practice of governmental administrative law and her education in accounting and auditing will help her as treasurer.

Prodan has lived in Wilton for 42 years.

Prior to going in to private practice, she owned and operated a graphic arts business, which she started when she was 14.

She has taken classes over the past years in accounting at the University of Maine at Augusta, including advanced courses in governmental accounting and auditing.
