PORTLAND — A Maine government survey says the average statewide cash price for heating oil dropped 4 cents in the past week.

The Governor’s Energy Office says the average price was $2.71 a gallon, according to the Jan. 5 survey. The average kerosene price of $3.31 was also 4 cents lower than last week. Propane prices held steady at $2.74. Heating oil averaged $3.81 per gallon a year ago at this time, while kerosene was $4.20 and propane was $3.17.

The highest prices for heating oil were found in southwest Maine, where prices reached $3.19. The lowest prices were in western and southwestern Maine, where the low mark was $2.25.
