LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine has announced that “Girls on the Run” is coming to Lewiston. The running club for girls in grades 3-5 will be offered this spring.

Girls on the Run is a national organization that offers an athletic curriculum to “teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games.” Each practice includes discussions of self-esteem, body image and confidence that are incorporated into the workout.

The YWCA team will be free of cost for participating girls through a generous scholarship from Girls on the Run Maine.

Organizers are looking for three energetic and enthusiastic coaches with experience working with youths to join the team. Practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. from March 23 through June 7.
