ANDOVER — An 11-year-old girl was rescued this week after she fell off her sled at the bottom of a 75-foot-long hill behind her home, fire Chief Rob Dixon said Wednesday.

The girl was taken to Rumford Hospital on Monday evening and later to a Portland hospital for treatment, Dixon said. He did not identify her or the type of injuries she suffered.

Dixon said that between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Monday the girl was sliding on a hill behind her house when she hit an embankment at the bottom of the hill and fell off her sled.

“She kept moving, but her sled stopped,” he said. “When we got there, we found that the injuries she had sustained due to the fall prevented her from walking up the hill by herself.”

Five firefighters and Med-Care Ambulance came to the scene.

“We were able to use some rope and a Stokes basket to carry her back up the hill,” the chief said.
