1930 – 2015

AUBURN — Dominique Casavant, 84, of Auburn, died Friday, Jan. 16, at the Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

His parents were Dominique Casavant and Alice Guimond Casavant. He graduated from St. Dominic High School and Bates College, with a degree in physics. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Army.

Two years later, he married his sweetheart, Lucille Mailhot. Together, they had four children. They lived in Winooski, Vt., and Dom earned a Ph.D. from the University of Vermont.

He taught physics at St. Michael’s College for 45 years and coached the ski team. Dom served as mayor of Winooski and later as a representative in the Vermont State House. After retiring from St. Michael’s, he moved to Auburn and taught statistics at Central Maine Community College, until May 2014.

Dom’s greatest love was for his family — his wife, Lucille; his children, Catherine and her husband, John Colardi, Thomas, Jay and his fiancée, Uli Stewart, and Terrie Casavant, the wife of his deceased son, Andre; and seven grandchildren, Lauren and her husband, Ryan Huber, Brendan, Ben, Ellen, Eric, Danielle and Andrew.

The family thanks Androscoggin Hospice House for their dedicated service.
