JAY — It is estimated it will take $10,000 to $15,000 to raise a wastewater flow meter pit near the Livermore Falls line and repair its cover.

Selectpersons approved spending up to $15,000 from the Sewer Reserve Account on Jan. 23 for the project.

The state plans to do some light paving on Route 133 during the summer. Sewer Department Superintendent Mark Holt reviewed the sewer infrastructure that the town has along the area and identified the meter pit as needing to be raised and repaired, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere previously said.

Holt estimated it would cost about $12,000 for removal, fabrication, repairs and installation. The meter pit structure is quite low and the hatch cover needs to be replaced, Holt told selectpersons. The hinges on the cover broke off.

It will take several days to do the work, he said.

A second, related project will include replacing nine manhole covers and associated work.

The cost of that project is estimated to be about $4,000, Holt said. He plans to include money for it in the 2015-16 budget.

When Board of Selectpersons Chairman Steve McCourt asked if the meter pit project would be put out to bid, Holt said he hadn’t planned on it.

They are hoping to do all the heavy equipment work themselves, he said.

He had a couple of contractors look at it and the cost would be time and material but it needs to be done by July 15, he said. That is when the paving is being done.

On a lot of projects he uses who he thinks will be the best for the job, he said.
