FARMINGTON — McDonald’s could get a new look this year: Plans to raze and rebuild the 303 Main St. restaurant are under consideration.

The Planning Board will discuss a site-review application for the proposed plan when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the Municipal Building.

The application proposes razing the 4,335-square-foot building and constructing a new, 4,892-square-foot restaurant. The work is expected to start this coming spring, according to the application.

No details or timeline had been formalized, Jeremy Hinton, president and director of operations for The Napoli Group said in a statement.

The Napoli Group, based in New Hampshire, is the owner/operator of the Farmington McDonald’s, said Kristel Wagner, public relations manager of Rinck Advertising in Auburn who responded to an inquiry for the business.

McDonald’s restaurants in Rumford, Jay, South Paris and Kittery also are franchised by the group, she said.

The property is owned by McDonald’s Corp. of Massachusetts which authorized civil engineers at Bohler Engineering to apply to the town for any permits needed.

The application proposes additional improvements such as new landscaping, utilities, lot lighting, parking and a concrete patio.

In other business, the board will review an application from the University of Maine at Farmington for a central energy plant.

UMF is proposing construction of a 5,800-square-foot plant on campus in parking lot 9 at the corner of Quebec and Perkins streets.

The wood biomass plant with liquid petroleum gas backup will heat the entire campus with an underground hot-water piping system.

An estimated 4,400 tons of wood chips, purchased locally, are expected to fuel the biomass boiler. These will be delivered 30 tons at a time by tractor-trailer, according to the application.
