EAST BURKE, Vt. — State police say a woman who was skiing in Vermont’s remote Northeast Kingdom has struck a tree and died.

It happened Friday afternoon at Q Burke Mountain. State police say the 27-year-old woman from St. Johnsbury left the groomed portion of a trail and struck a tree.

After the woman failed to meet up with her skiing partner, the ski patrol was notified. The ski patrol found the woman’s body on the trail. She was wearing a helmet.

Her name isn’t being released until her family is notified. State police say the death appears to be accidental, though the investigation continues. An autopsy will be performed.
