LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice has set the dates for its largest fundraising event of the year, The Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walk.

The events will take place on May 3, starting at the Franklin County Court House on Main Street in Farmington, and on May 17, starting at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of The Hospice House’s opening in Auburn. The Hospice House Planning Committee hopes to make the 2015 event bigger and better than ever and preparations for the event are well underway.

“An event this size and scale really takes a village to plan and implement,” said Ken Goodwin, one the committee’s five co-chairmen.

The Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walk Planning Committee consists of two teams: one for Farmington and one for Auburn. The Farmington team is led by co-chairmen Sharon Cullenberg and Beckie Bowering and the Auburn team, by chairmen Ken Goodwin, Ron Getchell and Judi Look.

The event also boasts two race directors, Kelley Cullenberg of Farmington and Dan Campbell of Auburn, both of whom specialize in course route development, as well as other aspects of the event.

Other planning committee members include Anissa Campbell-Allumbaugh, Shari Campbell, Chiara Ferrante, Kelly Goodwin, Louise Hamilton, Melissa Johnson, Michael Laliberty, Kaylie Lovejoy, Moninda Marube, Bonnie McHugh, Marchelle Meader, Cheryl Pike, Tricia Souther Bowering, Judy Vardamis, Tammy Viles and Shari Witham.

The Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walk was founded in 2009 after a local family experienced the wonderful care given to their loved one at the Hospice House. This family felt strongly that no one should have to worry about the cost of their end-of-life care, and worked to ensure that all those in need of the Hospice House’s services are able to receive them.

The event continues to grow every year, attracting more participants and raising more money. In 2014, the event raised over $75,000 to support the needs of patients at the Hospice House and their families.

The 2015 Planning Committee hopes to raise more than $85,000 this year.
