WILTON — The Board of Selectpersons unanimously agreed Tuesday to the purchase of a new truck for the Water Department.

Bailey Brothers Ford of Livermore Falls offered a new 2014 truck for $22,510, department Superintendent Clayton Putnam said. It’s a four-wheel-drive with a standard 8-foot box and a bumper-to-bumper warranty.

“It’s a plain Jane, nothing fancy,” he said.

It will replace the department’s 2003 4-wheel drive truck.

The last new vehicle purchased by the department was in 1996, Putnam said.

The board also received a price of about $19,000 for a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado with about 57,000 miles, Putnam said.

The new truck seems like a good value, he said.

The board agreed but questioned where the extra $2,510 would come from, since only $20,000 was budgeted.

Putnam said it would be taken from the department funds, which tallied over $400,000 at the end of January.

In other business, the board listened to a request to change the location of Wilton swim lessons.

Louis Webster made a plea to change the site of swim lessons from Kineowatha Park to a location across from Bass Park, where they used to be. He said Kineowatha Park has a steep banking that is challenging and dangerous for anyone with a disability, an injury or who is obese and might not be able to go down to watch their children or grandchildren, he said.

His other concern was the water quality of the cove at Kineowatha Park.

Board members said the request should be made to the Recreation Committee and recreation Director Frank Donald, who could make a recommendation to the board.
