NORWAY — The Center for an Ecology-Based Economy is launching its Community BikeShare program April 1.

Bicycles will be available for locals and visitors to use, free of charge, after registering for the program. Once registered, participants will be briefed on program specifics and safety issues, and have unlimited access to bikes for the season.

Bicycles will be available for short trips and errands within a specified area of the Norway, South Paris and Oxford. They are not meant for trail riding or to compete with bicycle rentals from local bike shops.

A map will be provided with preferred safe routes and rack locations. Donations from riders will be accepted to offset program costs, and local businesses can sponsor the program in various ways.

CEBE accepts donated bicycles from the community, as well as unclaimed bicycles from the Norway police department. Before entering the program, each bicycle is overhauled to provide a safe and comfortable ride.

A series of ongoing BikeShare SkillShare events will begin with sessions at 6 p.m. March 11 and 18 at 6 p.m. at CEBE, which is located at 447 Main St.

For more information and to register, visit the CEBE website at ecologybasedeconomy.org/cebe-bikeshare.html, call them at 739-2101 or visit the center in the Fare Share Co-op building.
