1940 – 2015

AUGUSTA — Gabrielle M. (Vachon) Thomas, 74, formerly of Lewiston-Auburn, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 10, at MaineGeneral Hospital with family at her side.

She was born in Lewiston on June 29, 1940, a daughter of Roland J. and Florence A. (Bilodeau) Vachon and was educated in Auburn schools. Until recent years, Gabrielle remained a lifelong resident of this community.

Gabrielle worked for a few years as a floral designer at Dube’s Flower Shop and at Grant’s Department Store as a cashier. While living in Lewiston, she was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and enjoyed reading, dancing, singing, cooking, dining out, watching TV and often visiting and socializing with family and friends. She liked wearing lipstick and was always “put together” when going out and about. She also enjoyed the company of her cat, Sheba.

Gabrielle was a loving, devoted and hardworking mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind a son, William North and companion, Jane Padilla, of Lowell, Mass.; two daughters, Laurie Thomas of Auburn and Bonnie Loubier and husband, Joe, of Litchfield; four grandchildren, Vallerie North, Sam North, Matthew Thomas and Heather Loubier; one brother, Roger Vachon and wife Shirley of Elgin, Ill.; and two nieces, Michelle Reid and Dianne Peechaphand.

She was predeceased by her parents and a niece, Paula Vachon.
