AUBURN — Police are asking the public for help in finding a 15-year-old local girl missing since late February. As it turns out, Facebook might aid them as much as any tipster.

Police said Lily Swearingen vanished Feb. 27 and by the middle of March, investigators had no leads as to her whereabouts.

Thursday night, after a news story about the disappearance ran on the Sun Journal website, Swearingen’s Facebook page was updated.

“Listen, I’m okay,” the update stated. “If everyone wants to know, I ran away.”

The post indicates that Swearingen’s disappearance was related to a dispute with the Department of Health and Human Services.

“DHHS doesn’t want me to live with my family,” the post continued. “They’re tearing me apart.”

By late Thursday, police were still investigating the disapperance. Swearingen is described as about 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 90 pounds. She has shoulder-length black hair and hazel eyes.

Police are asking that anyone with information call them at 784-7331.
