THORNDIKE — The state fire marshal’s office has charged a Thorndike man with arson and domestic violence assault after a fire Saturday that heavily damaged his house, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Monday night in a news release.
Randy Tremaine, 42, also was charged with violating the conditions of his release from a previous arrest, McCausland said.
The fire destroyed a shed on Tremaine’s property and badly damaged his house, McCausland said. He said that Tremaine threatened firefighters who turned out to extinguish the fire. Firefighters subdued Tremaine, tied him up and waited for deputies to arrive while they put out the fire.
Tremaine was taken to a Bangor hospital for self-inflicted injuries and released late Monday morning. He then was taken to Waldo County Jail, McCausland said.
According to investigators, the fire followed an altercation between Tremaine and his ex-girlfriend, who had gone to the house to retrieve her belongings.
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation that led to Tremaine’s arrest, McCausland said.
