AUBURN — The future National Commander, Dale Barnett, will visit William J. Rogers Post 153 at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 4.

All Executive Committee members are invited to enjoy coffee and doughnuts with the new leadership.

Bean supper on April 11

AUBURN — The Auxiliary of William J. Rogers Post 153 will host a bean supper on Saturday, April 11, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 71 South Main St.

On the menu will be baked beans, hot dogs, cole slaw, roll and dessert. Adults $7, kids $4. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds benefit veterans programs.

Commercial Travelers to meet April 11

MECHANIC FALLS — Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will hold a dinner meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Marco’s Restaurant.

Creative smartphone photography

LEWISTON — An entire photography studio right in your pocket! On Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. tap into your creative potential, moving from mere snapshot to print-worthy photography during the Lewiston Public Library’s three-hour Smartphone Photography Seminar.

In this hands-on seminar, Maine photographer Chris Cavallari will instruct you on how to use light, composition, apps and your own unique perspective to bring your mobile photography out of snapshot-land and into fine art territory.

Poland Historical Society meeting

POLAND — The next meeting of the Poland Historical Society will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Old School House.

The guest speaker will be Ron Romano, a board member for Spirit Alive (The Friends of Eastern Cemetery) in Portland. He spent much of 2013 research the life, time and work of Bartlett Adams and conducted a comprehensive survey of Adams’ work at Portland’s historic Eastern Cemetery.

This year Romano has visit more than 150 early cemeteries in Southern Maine to document the impact of Bartlett Adams throughout the region. He will share pictures of some stones found in Poland that were produced in Adams’ shop.

The public is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Cooking, gardening classes at ARK

LEWISTON — A cooking class with nutritionist Cheryl Farley will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 13, at The ARK, 791 Lisbon St.

There is no fee and registration is not required.

An organic gardening forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.

Speakers will be Doug Holway, director of the agricultural program and manager of Country Cupboard Farm at Riverview Memorial School in Norridgewock; Michael and Sonya Tardiff, owners of Eden Life Sanctuary and Taste of Eden Vegan Cafe in Norway; and Dr. Greg Penner, home organic farmer.

The program is free and registration is not required. Participants may even receive a prize of an organic plant or organic seeds.
