WHITEFIELD — An 85-year-old man apparently used a table saw to cut his hand off just above the wrist Tuesday evening, according to police.
Lincoln County deputies responded Tuesday night to a home on East River Road and found the man, whose identity was withheld, had apparently severed his hand, according to a release from Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
The man “actively resisted” efforts by deputies to render first aid, but the deputies were able to apply a tourniquet in order to stop the bleeding, according to Maker
The man was taken by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Officials believe he was later taken to a Boston-area hospital. No further information about the man’s condition was available Wednesday evening.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by a Delta Ambulance crew, the Whitefield Fire Department and other first responders.
