PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Police in Portsmouth, New Hampshire said a man suspected in multiple rapes has been arrested in Maine.
Authorities said 21-year-old James Banks of Portsmouth was being held as a fugitive from justice in York, Maine.
Portsmouth police told WMUR that Banks was charged in New Hampshire with three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and kidnapping and criminal restraint.
Police said they have been investigating the reported assaults since January and believe Banks used social media to contact his victims and arrange to meet them in Portsmouth.
It wasn’t immediately known when Banks would be returned to New Hampshire or whether he has a lawyer.
