LEWISTON – St. Mary’s Nutrition Center has announced the release of the 2015 garden workshop schedule. Workshops are part of the center’s Lots to Gardens program, which uses urban gardens in Lewiston to increase access to healthy food, empower youth and build community.

The season will start with a three-part Grow a Garden Series, with the first session scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 7. The series will cover the basics needed to start a garden as well as frequently asked questions and extra tidbits to get the most from a garden.

Topics will include soil testing, starting seedlings, garden layout and pest prevention. Participants may attend one session or all three.

Other workshops this season will include growing and using medicinal herbs, container gardening, composting, edible weeds and seed-saving.
