AUGUSTA – Sen. Eric Brakey, R-Androscoggin, has been appointed to the Maine Children’s Trust Board by Senate President Michael Thibodeau, R-Waldo.

The Maine Children’s Trust (MTC) was established to prevent child abuse and neglect in the state. The trust seeks to accomplish this goal by organizing a strong unified voice that abuse is preventable and to facilitate collaboration.

“I am pleased to be appointed to the Maine Children’s Trust Board,” said Brakey. “We must do all we can to protect our youngest citizens who cannot protect themselves.”

Among its activities, the MTC develops, operates, expands or enhances a statewide network of community-based, prevention-focused programs and also leads the statewide Strengthening Maine Families initiative in providing training programs for child care providers to help parents become stronger parents.

Brakey, chairman of the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, is serving his first term in the Maine Senate.
