BREWER (AP) — Authorities say four families have been displaced by an early morning fire at a Brewer apartment building.

The blaze in the multi-unit building on South Main Street was reported just after midnight Tuesday.

Perry Antone, director of public safety in Brewer, says the rear of the building was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the scene, but everyone appears to have made it out safely.

The cause remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is providing food, clothing, and emergency shelter for displaced residents.

Crews from Bangor, Holden, Orrington and Eddington assisted.
