LEWISTON – The University of Maine at Farmington (2-10, 1-5) split a doubleheader with Thomas College on Monday afternoon at Lafayette Street Field. The conference showdown saw Thomas come away with a 2-1 victory in the first game and UMF winning the second game, 8-0.

The Beavers took the lead in their first at-bat with an RBI single from Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine). Shelby Bryant (South Portland, Maine) led off the inning with a single to left field, but an error by the center fielder allowed Bryant to trot all the way to third. On the next play, Bond blooped a pop fly in between the charging right fielder and second baseman for the game’s first run.

UMF’s lead stood strong until the fourth inning when the Terriers were able to even things up at one-apiece. With two runners in scoring position, Jordan Agger-Barnes (Wells, Maine) lined a single up the middle for the RBI.

Thomas scored the difference maker in the top of the six. After Briana Warren (Smithfield, Maine) doubled down the right field line, Korrie Laren (Blackstone, Mass.) launched a shot that hit off the top of the wall and came back into the play for the RBI double.

The Beavers’ offense came alive in the second game and tallied three runs in the second inning. UMF racked up four straight singles to grab a 2-0 advantage, including three RBI singles from Bryant, Bond, and Katie Clark. (Westbrook, Maine).

The score remained the same until the fifth inning when Farmington put up five more runs on the scoreboard. Kennadi Grover (Cushing, Maine) roped an RBI single through the right side and then Margaret Fogarty (Auburn, Maine) followed with an RBI single of her own.

After Grover scored on an error by the second baseman, Alison Hamilton (Portsmouth, R.I) laid down a bunt and legged it out for the single to load the bases. Bryant walked to bring in another run and then Bond recorded a bunt single for the game’s final run.

Bond was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Grover had a solid game with three hits.

Emily Vitone (Westminster, Mass.) pitched two complete games tonight and took a no-hitter into the fourth inning in each game. Vitone combined to strike out three Terriers and two runs on seven hits.
