FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington police are looking for a male who physically assaulted a UMF student walking to her residence hall at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, UMF police Chief Brock Caton said Wednesday.

The incident occurred near the back patio of the Education Center, which is next to High and Lincoln streets, he said.

The student was on campus property and had taken a shortcut behind the building to get to her residence hall. She received minor injuries but did not receive medical attention, he said.

The assailant was described as a white male of medium build and approximately 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall and wearing a baseball cap backward, Caton said.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the UMF officer on duty at 778-7400.

Caton encouraged students not to walk alone at night and to stay on main roads where there are streetlights and to call 911 in emergencies.
