NORWAY — Doris “Dot” K. McAllister, 96, passed away at the Norway Convalescent Center in Norway on April 17, 2015. She was born on the family farm in West Fryeburg on Dec. 18, 1918, the daughter of Herman and Hannah Gilman. She attended grammar school by way of a horse and buggy and later graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1936. She married D. Elford McAllister June 18, 1938.
 
She was employed by her brother-in-law at the Fryeburg Coffee Shop and then at the Fryeburg Shoe Shop. After retirement, she returned to work as a volunteer in the pharmacy department at Stephens Memorial Hospital where, she was honored as the oldest volunteer.
 
She and her husband enjoyed square dancing, snowmobiling, listening to the loons on Back Pond in Stoneham and spending time with their grandchildren.
 
Mrs. McAllister was a member of the Pythagorean Chapter 169, Order of the Eastern Star in Fryeburg,  the Lovell VFW Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She also worked at the VFW booth at the Fryeburg Fair.
 
After losing her husband of 53 years, she shared a home in Waterford with her brother-in-law, Carroll Fogg, who had also suffered the loss of his wife of many years.
 
Mrs. McAllister is survived by her son, Daniel and his wife, Sally, of Hampden; a son, Conrad (Butch) and his wife, Nancy, of Norway; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth McAllister of Rochester, N.H.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. \
 
She was predeceased by her husband, Elford; a son, Terence; two brothers, Myron and Jesse Gilman and two sisters, Marion Mandoff and Vellie Reed.
 
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Fryeburg New Church. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Beacon Hospice, 245 Center St., Suite 10 A, Auburn, ME 04210. Arrangements are made with Wood Funeral Home, Fryeburg.
