ALLAGASH — A Michigan man suspected of killing his wife in January and believed to be in Maine may be in Aroostook County, according to an email from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.

Police in Michigan said 66-year-old Harold “Butch” Knight strangled his wife, Sara Knight. Investigators believe Knight traveled to Maine, ditched his car in Franklin County and dyed his hair and mustache black.

He was last spotted in the Rangeley area in February.

“Mr. Knight is armed and dangerous and our current knowledge is that he is in or has been in Aroostook County and may have headed to Allagash to escape over the border,” Detective Martin Mendell of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, stated in the email, sent to an Allagash business earlier this week.

In February, witnesses in Rangeley reported seeing Knight and said he had asked about snowmobile trails.

Knight and his wife once lived in Turner.
