KITTERY (AP) — The nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Annapolis is in Kittery for regular maintenance work and upgrades.

The submarine and her crew of 16 officers and 122 enlisted personnel arrived at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery this weekend.

Annapolis was commissioned in 1992 and its home port is Groton, Conn.

The vessel is one of the attack submarines that support special forces operations, among other duties.

Annapolis returned in September from her last overseas deployment to the European and Central Command areas after travelling more than 34,000 nautical miles.

The USS Annapolis is named for the site of the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland.
