SKOWHEGAN – Jennifer Dorman, 2015 Maine Teacher of the Year and 2014 Somerset County Teacher of the Year, is in the nation’s capital this week to meet with President Barack Obama and other leaders.
Mrs. Dorman, who teaches at Skowhegan Area Middle School, was named Maine’s Teacher of the Year, by the Maine Department of Education at a surprise school assembly in October 2014.
The honor includes a trip to D.C. this weekend, including a meet-and-greet with the president and vice president.
Mrs. Dorman will meet the president at a special ceremony in the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday, April 29th at 11 am and can be viewed at www.whitehouse.gov (Live Events).
She, along with teachers of the year from the other 49 states, will first attend a reception at Vice President Joe Biden’s home.
Tours of the Smithsonian and a U.S. Department of Education forum are also on the itinerary.
Mrs. Dorman has been teaching for 22 years and is a special education teacher and reading interventionist.
The 2015 County Teachers of the Year will be announced at the Maine State House Hall of Flags on May 7, 2015. One of these teachers will be selected the 2016 Teacher of the Year.
