This is in response to the letter from Charles Bouchles, “Use brain before using mouth” (May 5), regarding Westbrook City Councilman Paul Emery’s comments about Gov. Paul LePage.

I agree that politicians, and one politician in particular, should engage one’s brain before opening their mouth. As far as Emery resigning — if Gov. LePage was forced to resign for every inappropriate/offensive comment he’s made, Maine would have had a different governor many times over. And the governor represents the whole state, not just one city.

These statements have been attributed to Paul LePage:

Democratic Sen. Troy Jackson has “no brains” and a “black heart” and “claims to be for the people, but he’s the first one to give it to the people … without providing Vaseline.”

“You guys, you’re idiots and you’re just as bad, if not worse, than those other guys.” — Comparing independent lawmakers to Democrats.

“That [criticism] is coming from a little spoiled brat from Portland.” — referring to Sen. Justin Alfond, D-Portland.

“I’d laugh at them, the idiots. That’s what I would do. Come on! Get over yourselves!” —  referring to protests to block the removal of the labor mural from the state Department of Labor.

“Tell them to kiss my butt.” — to NAACP members.

“If you want a good education, go to private schools. If you can’t afford it, tough luck.”

“…  You’re going to be seeing a lot of me on the front page, saying ‘Gov. LePage tells Obama to go to hell’.”
