BANGOR (AP) — A weekend food drive for the Good Shepherd Food Bank has helped raise enough donations to provide nearly 61,000 meals.

The food drive held in Auburn, Augusta, Sanford, Bangor and Scarborough raised more than 3 ½ tons of food and almost $14,000 in cash donations.

The Feed Maine food drive was sponsored by television stations WLBZ and WCSH.

The Auburn-based Good Shepherd Food Bank says more than 200,000 Maine residents suffer insecurity, the highest rate in New England.

The food bank is always open for new donations.
